Folklore of our region

Vira da Nazaré

Tiles "Vira da Nazaré"

“Não vás ao mar Toino”("Don´t go to sea Toino”). This is one of the most popular folklore songs. Nazaré is a land of fishermen and they  depend on the sea. It gave them the bread, the joys and sorrows. And to express all this, the fishermen and their wives have always given primacy to music and dance.

The women wear seven skirts. When it is raining and they are waiting  for their husbands on the beach they put a skirt over her head and the other underneath to protect from moisture. The hat has a Ponpon not only to be  proctected of the sun but also to carry the baskets more comfortably.
